Went into Assetto corsa general settings, and turned off GPU accelerated GUI menu or something similar. --> Nothing noticeable happened. Noticed that "steam overlay" was disabled for "Assetto corsa". Went into steam and enabled it.

All three options work fine with VR but I found mouse steering to be the best of the three for accuracy and modulation of steering input.
