With an increase in trade between Liverpool, Cumbria, and the Scottish ports came an increased demand for a lighthouse on this stretch of the coast. WebMaughold Head is the closest point to England. We came here by car. There is a narrow lane and a car park nearby. Just hope there is no car coming from the other direction. Luckily it was a quiet day when I visited. This is a nature reserve. You have marvelous views of the island and the coast as well as the sea. It is well worth a stroll.
